Homeschool Wrap Up....not really

If you've noticed we have really slacked the last few weeks with homeschooling. Not that I haven't tried, because I have. I've kept up with the letters and numbers, but I just didn't do anything worth a picture or anything new.
Mei Mei has had a three week winter holiday for Chinese New Year. We have just ended week two.
But, here are some pictures of a birthday party and some interesting food...
Mei Mei turned 6!
We had a few friends over for a painting party. All kinds of painting went on from watercolor to finger painting.  Below shows the artwork from a young lady, some paint, and a marble.  The girls had so much fun rocking a cookie sheet causing the marble to roll back and forth through the paint colors.
As for food. Here is something that I found that was pretty cool.  A pineapple cake in the shape of Taiwan. It even has the mountain range, which is very detailed. For those of you living in Taipei, you can find them at the Famous Bakery on Roosevelt Rd. next to the Fuji Film store.
Note that this is turned on its side so the mountain range can be viewed.
The point on the left should be down (south).
And on a funny note, we had fajitas with blue rice.  This can't be found in any restaurant (that I know of). This we did in our own kitchen.  How do you do it? Add food coloring...I think we'll try red next time. It might look a bit more appetizing than the blue did.  But, the kids thought it was great.

Sun Moon Lake

We are back from our mini-vacation.  We started our trip in Taichung...well, can I say that since Uwe had meetings there? Hmm, I think the kids would say "YES" because they spent most of the time at the pool on campus.
From there we traveled to Sun Moon Lake, where we camped for one night. It is a pretty lake, but too commercialized. It is a top destination for the mainland Chinese, so enough said.
Here are some pics from that time....

Our campsite was right on the lake.
After the tent was set up we headed on a walk along the path into the little village night market where we tried some..
 Wild Black Boar.
and some ice-cream...

It was really yummy.

Megan entertained herself with rock jumping.
And all the kids enjoyed throwing rocks. Guess this one was
a bit big, huh?

Back to rock throwing the next morning. Had to get that
last bit of tossing before we headed out.

So, here is my take on the whole Sun Moon Lake experience...it was nice, but one day and one time is enough. I hope I'm not too harsh, but there were too many people walking by on the path and stopping to tour the foreigners camping by the lake. Maybe a hotel would have been better...but what fun is that?

First Tastes of Summer: My Top 5

Summer is here and with it all the great treats. Here is my list of top Summer Treats:

1.Mango Bing
(shaved ice, fresh cut mangoes with condensed milk heavily drizzled over it.)
Yum! Yum!

2. Passion Fruit Green Bubble Tea
(So refreshing on a hot day!)

3. Mango
(This is my favorite fruit!)

4. Yellow Watermelon
(Yes, it really is yellow and I like it better than the red.)

5. Corn-on-the-cob
(This has to be my favorite this year as, well the picture tells all!)
Matthea's first bite of corn-on-the-cob EVER! It was a huge hit! We actually had to take it away because her bites were too big and too often. Oh, the thought of that feeding tube being gone for good is coming to a reality! Still praying that she doesn't aspirate and is pneumonia free until October! Then it is good-bye to that Mic-Key G-tube!
